Heather was in charge of making the traditional New Year's oliebollen (Dutch deep-fried donut balls with apples and raisins in them) at Crown Pointe. Holly and I came in to help with the frying. None of us had ever done it before, but with some advice from the residents we managed to pull it off. At the end of the afternoon, the triple batch was eaten, we smelled like oil, and the room was very sugary. Mmmm, fat balls!

I love fat balls. Have a safe trip out west and I hope to see you in the next couple of months!
i had fat balls for new years too. it was yummy. dipped in icing sugar of course. My cousins brought it so our house didn't smell like oil. Yay.
VET BOLLEN!!! What an adventure... thanks for helping :)
Maybe I'll mail you a third of my paycheck .... uh, maybe not
Looks like fun! Did you get to sample the Vet Bollen? What did you fry them in? The one in the picture looks like a coffee pot that you heated oil in. I don't have a Fry Daddy...Is that what a Fry Daddy looks like? My mom used to make them in an electric frypan with oil. We made them with raisins. Never had with apples. Love Jolene
